In the early 1950's, residents of the Jackson Park area of West Concord, after seeing several neighbors lose their homes to the ravages of fire, began discussing the possibility of organizing a volunteer fire department for their neighborhood.

In mid-summer of 1954, a public meeting was called at Rocky River Methodist Church for the purpose of discussing the organization of such a department. In November of the same year, the first of three fire trucks were delivered to the department and the firefighting began.

The Jackson Park Fire Department was officially Chartered in 1954 under the leadership of Fire Chief M.C. "Runt" Wingate. Since then, the fire loss in the West Concord area has diminished considerably. Not only did the department help extinguish fires, but the presence of the organization has made our citizens aware of the dangers of fire, and fewer calls have been recorded during recent years.
