Units from the Jackson Park Fire Department, Cabarrus County EMS and Cabarrus County Rescue Squad were dispatched to a 3 vehicle accident with pin-in on US Hwy 49 at Zion Church Road on 11-24-02 at 03:50hrs. The incident was just a block away from Cabarrus EMS Station 2 and EMS 4 arrived at 03:52hrs. EMS 4 confirmed a double pin-in and one fatality. JP Assistant Chief 1702 arrived on scene at 03:55hrs and Rescue Engine 1752 arrived at 03:56hrs. JP Assistant Chief 1703 established command and crews from JPFD began extricating the driver of the limosine. Command requested Allen VFD to be dispatched due to incident being in their district. AVFD personnel assisted with extrication and deployed a 1 3/4" attack line for safety. Cabarrus County Rescue also assisted with extrication. Command also requested Concord Fire & Life Safety Engine 8 to set up a landing zone for the in bound helicopter from Carolina's Medical Center. The driver of the limo was extricated at 04:36hrs and taken to the helicopter for transport to CMC, a Level 1 Trauma Center. The third vehicle involved was a Tractor Trailer carrying hazardous materials. The vehicle sustained minor damage and the driver was not injured. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to the family of the young man who lost his life in this accident. He was the son of a Charlotte Fire Department Captain.
